This course is an introduction to Algebraic Topology. We discuss the fundamental group and its relation to covering spaces, and homology theory. The syllabus consists of Chapters 0, 1, 2 in Hatcher's book.
"Algebraic Topology", by Allen Hatcher
The lectures need to be complemented by careful reading of the text book. Under the homework tab you will find a list of daily reading assignments. In order to have time to digest the material, I highly recommend keeping up with the readings.
In addition there will be a weekly written assignment. The problem set will be posted on Friday. Your solutions are due the next Wednesday in class.
It is allowed (and even encouraged) to discuss the homework problems with other students in the course. However, you should write up your own answers and hand in your own work.
There will be one midterm exam and one final exam. Both exams are take-home exams.
The course grade will be based on the scores on the exams and the homework.
