Schedule and Homework Assignments

There are three kinds of assignments made daily:

• Reading assignments are self-explanatory.
• Practice problems are not for handing in, but we will discuss them in class at the following class period. Sometimes this will mean students presenting at the board. These are very important, so while you need not write them up formally please be sure you have thoroughly investigated them.
• Graded problems will be submitted in class and should be written formally. There will sometimes be overlap between the practice problems and the graded problems, which should be to your advantage. They will be due in class the Monday of the week after the assignment was made. No late homework will be accepted. You are encouraged to collaborate on the homework, but what you write has to be your own understanding of how to do the problem. You must state what sources you have consulted, with whom you have collaborated, and from whom you have received help.

Many of these problems don’t require a long proof, but for those that do you may want to review these tips on writing proofs.
