Professor Dan Rockmore asks, How much of the world is it possible to model? in The New Yorker. “Math can help us shine a light on dark worlds, but we should look critically, always asking why the math is so effective, recognizing where it isn't, and pushing on the places in between,” writes the Neukom Institute director and professor of mathematics and computer science, about math modelling.
Please join us for Dartmouth-UVM Math Day on Saturday, 10 February 2024. The Dartmouth-UVM Math Day brings together mathematicians from Dartmouth College and the University of Vermont to share research, build connections, and do math! Plenary speakers are Dimitrios Giannakis (Dartmouth) and Spencer Backman (UVM). Free registration is available at https://dartgo.org/dartuvmmath. We invite submissions of 20-minute contributed talks and 5-minute lightning talks related to all areas of mathematics.
