FINAL EXAM. The final is Saturday, August 27th from 3:00 to 6:00 in our usual room: Kemeny 105.  The exam will be closed book and closed notes.  The final is comprehensive and will cover all the material we've covered during the term: that is, most of Chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 as well as the selected topics we've covered in the last two weeks (such as completeness and the Barie Category Theorem).  There will be considerably less emphasis on statements of theorems and definitions than on previous in class exams.

SECOND EXAM RESULTS: Great job!

SECOND EXAM: The in class portion of the second exam will be given during our x-hour on Tuesday, August 9th.  By popular request, the take home portion will be due in class on FRIDAY, rather then Wednesday, August 12th.  The exam will cover material convered in lecture and the reading up to and including section 29.  Of course, it will emphasize material convered since the first exam. The in class portion is closed book and closed notes. On the take home portion, you may use the text and class notes.  But no other sources are allowed: animate or inanimate.  You can always ask me for clarification on any problem at any time.

FIRST EXAM RESULTS: By in large, the class did a good job for a first exam.  If I had to give a grade today, and not having looked at the homework, everyone would probably get some flavor of B or better.  I do have a couple of general comments:

FIRST EXAM: Our first exam will be Tuesday, July 19th.  The in class portion will be given during our x-hour (1:00-1:50).  There will also be a short take home portion due in class on Wednesday (July 20th).   The exam will cover through section 21.  The in class portion will be closed book and closed notes.  You are not to receive assistance from any source animate or inanimate.  On the take home portion, you may use the text and class notes.  But no other sources are allowed: animate or inanimate.  You can always ask me for clarification on any problem at any time.
