Abstract: Since the late 1800's, with the publication of Edwin Abbott's book "Flatland", the fourth dimension has always been a popular subject in the public's imagination. In this talk, we will give an introduction to the ideas and geometry of the fourth dimension, such as tesseracts, hyperspheres, Klein bottles. We will also see how four-dimensional ideas have appeared in various disciplines, including art, literature, computer science, space-time physics, religion and mysticism.

This talk will be accessible to undergraduates.
