Group actions on buildings

Abstract. We describe the type (in the sense of von Neumann) of certain group actions on buildings. We begin with the simple case of a free group acting on a tree. Our approach will be more geometrical than analytical; a good undergraduate course in algebra should be the only prerequisite.

Anybody with any doubts should consider attending the Graduate Student Seminar on Coxeter complexes at 12.30 on Tuesday, November 7 in 104 Bradley.

Tea. High tea will be served at 3:30pm in the Lounge.
Emmy's. Certain refreshments will be available at the Emmy's after the talk.
Host. Tom Shemanske will be the host, anybody interested in having dinner with the speaker should contact Tom (Ext. 6-3179).
