Building C*-algebras from locally compact groupoids

Abstract: This will be a very elementary talk about how one constructs C*-algebras from algebraic data.  I’ll remind folks how this is done for groups, and then move on to groupoids.  In particular, I will define what a groupoid is.   If folks can take it, in a second talk later in the term, I’ll talk about groupoid equivalence and Morita equivalence.
