Abstract: Let V_1 and V_2 be representations of a Lie group G. We study the space of G-equivariant polynomial maps from V_1 to V_2. We also discuss how such spaces of functions arise in physics, in particular in the study of the rheology of an unknown fluid. Our observations indicate that G-equivariant function theory can lead to construction of neural networks that are mathematically optimal, despite being rare among naturally occurring intelligent systems. This is a joint work with Dimitris Giannakis.
