Exams

There will be two midterm examinations and a final examination. These exams are scheduled as follows:

If you have a legitimate conflict with these exams dates and times, please contact your instructor as soon as possible. Please do not wait until shortly before the exam.

Note. Exams will not be given early to accommodate travel plans.

Homework Policy

Homework sets will be assigned for each class but are to be handed in weekly. Assignments for a given week are usually to be submitted in class next Wednesday. There will be appropriate adjustments for holidays. You can check the exact due dates on the Homework Assignments web page.
In addition to written assignments, you are encouraged to solve all appropriate Practice Problems that are listed at the end of each Section from the book. Please do not hand in solutions to these problems. Their sole purpose is to help you judge your performance in class. Although these practice problems will not be graded, they can be a good indicator of how you cope with the course material. If you don't have even a slightest idea how to approach one or several Practice Problems, you may be in a deep trouble and are strongly advised to contact your instructor as soon as possible.
Late homeworks will not be accepted. Unexcused late and missing papers count zero.

The homework scores not only count count towards your final grade and allow you to practice and refine your skills but, historically, those students who do the homework sets regularly fair better on the exams.

Grades

The course grade will be based upon the scores on the two midterm exams, the final exam, and the homework.

The Honor Principle

On Homework: Collaboration is permitted and encouraged, but NO COPYING. Discussions of the general ideas of the class with instructors, tutors, fellow students and others are desirable. However, each student is expected to complete his or her assignments individually and independently.
