Lecture 16

less than 1 minute read

  • Homework 5 is on Canvas, which is due at 11:59 pm Feb 22.

  • In Lecture 16, we finished Chapter 4. Note that chi-square, t-, and F-distributions are related to estimating 1) sample variance, 2) standardized score, and 3) ratio between two sample variances. This interpretation will be useful when you need to figure out which distribution to use in statistics.

  • We also started Statistics, 6.1 and 6.2. In Chapter 6, you will learn several methods for parametric inference; Method of Moments (section 6.2), Method of Quantiles (section 6.3), and Maximum Likelihood (section 6.10). Section 6.4 is devoted to checking accuracy and error in the estimation.
