This site presents a set of time series data quantifying the area covered by water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms) in selected large bays and gulfs of Lake Victoria, in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, as well as Lac Mihindi in Rwanda.
The data are derived from classified remote sensing imagery. "Classified," in this context, means the raw remote sensing data are processed and each picture element (pixel) in each image is placed into a class, or category. The details of image acquisition and classification are summarized here, and described in detail in this report.
