Abstract: Historically my lab’s research has focused on physically based Monte Carlo light transport simulation, which we have successfully applied in commercial settings like visual effects, animated films, and video games. Over the last few years we have been slowly broadening that research agenda to other computational problems as well as scientific applications. In this talk I’ll focus on our recent efforts to apply our background in Monte Carlo light transport algorithms to develop novel approaches for solving certain classes of partial differential equations, applicable in a number of scientific disciplines.
