  1. “Why budget?” a short video leads to a discussion about budgeting as an introduction to a more extensive exploration.
  2. “Here is the budget” graphic from the U.S. Department of labor displays categories of average U.S. household expenditures
  3. “Thomas is a teacher” introduces payroll deductions for the example.
  4. “$2055” sets an amount to start a budget and introduces saving for retirement and rainy day funds.
  5. “Thomas has made some initial” begins the discussion of household and living expenses and asks students to think about the advantages and disadvantages of sharing an apartment.
  6. “Thomas has made a spreadsheet” asks students to list all expected living expenses and begins the discussion of needs versus desires.
  7. “Thomas's expenses on a monthly basis, part 1” presents the rental costs for one bedroom versus two bedroom apartment, electricity, fixed student loans and medical costs .
