Workshop: How to Guard an Art Gallery

Abstract: How many guards would we need to protect an art gallery, and where should they be placed? By encoding the situation with points, lines, and shapes, these and many other questions can be rephrased in terms of graph theory and geometry. We will explore the ideas behind these two subjects and the interplay between them in order to approach and solve real-world problems.

Abstract: Have you ever tried to pass a secret note to a friend but worried that a nosy onlooker would be able to read your secret? Worry no more! Math can help! In this workshop we'll use methods of algebra and graph theory to discuss three different techniques for coding and code-breaking!
