SYLLABUS
Homework 1
Homework 2
Homework 3
Homework 4
Homework 5
Due Tuesday, Oct. 16
- 1. You will design two mandalas, each with the same number of symmetries but different composition tables. There must be at least eight symmetries.
- 2. The mandalas should be executed by block printing in three colors, using color interaction to give the impression that four colors are present.
- 3. Each mandala should be accompanied by its group composition table, with symmetries and order of composition clearly identified.
- 4. I would prefer if the tables were on the same paper as the mandala, so that you also have to consider a small layout problem.
- 5. The color interaction should break the symmetry in one of the mandalas and reinforce it in the other.
- 6. You should plan on spending a lot of time sketching the layout and experimenting before executing a "final print".
- 7. I plan to ask Erling Heistad, who runs the jewelry studio in the basement of the Hop, to come and do the critique of your work. I don't know yet whether Tuesday or Thursday will work for him, but plan on Tuesday, ok?
