Homework 6
Due Thursday, Oct. 18
- 1. Go to the public file server and find the key-served Photoshop program. Install it on your computer and make sure there is an alias on your desktop allowing you to open it easily. If you get hung up on this part, ask others in your dorm or classes for help. Never fear! You are surrounded by nerds, and this is a good thing.
- 2. Go to the web site for our class: math5 Pattern Syllabus 01
- 3. Find the file of Alhambra photos. These are photos of the walls of the Alhambra, scanned for your use. Download a couple of them onto your machine.
- 4. Open Photoshop and import the files into the photoshop program. (Scroll down under "File" and use the command "Import".)
- 5. Make sure the images you imported are now saved somewhere on your machine where you can find them.
- 6. Math problem: Compute the group table for symmetries of a rectangle. Is it isomorphic to any of the ones we have seen so far?
- 7. Please turn in copies of all four tables you have done for class: The triangle, two mandalas, and the rectangle. Next to each table please put a sketch (this is not an art assignment) of the object that you were studying. Please make four copies of this: one for me, one for you, and two to share with others in the class. Thanks!
