Due Thursday, Nov. 15

This is a very large math assignment that is worth four regular assignments. You may work with each other on it, but each person has to turn in their own write-up. We will also spend some time in class on it, but not enough for you to do everything. The directions are simple. Obtain a spiral notebook. Do every problem in the Shibori for Geometers text.

Now, some of these are very easy problems, but the text is working toward your own statement and proof of a theorem. The problem posed in the last chapter is hard and you need to get going now on this assignment. You will turn in your notebook at the end of the quarter along with your portfolio.

As a time frame, I suggest you plan to have all the problems in chapters 1-5 done before the last week of class. Then we can devote some class time to the last chapter.

Many of the problems involve actually making a shibori. These we will do in class using paper and a dressmakers "pounce wheel". You will also get a chance to make a real shibori.
